In the lower-level exhibition areas, work is in progress on assembling a corpus of films and sound recordings illustrating the life and work of Katharina Schroth, and soon the Museum will be able to reveal to visitors these previously "hidden treasures".

All items in the Katharina Schroth Exhibition were originally personal possessions of my mother or else come from my own archive and are loans or gifts to the Local History Museum.

"The "Priorhof"" - The Bad Sobernheim Local History Museum

The Bad Sobernheim Local History Museum was established in 1986 in the "Priorhof", a Renaissance building (dating from 1572/73) that was formerly in the ownership of the Marienpforte Monastery (located 2 km to the east of Bad Sobernheim).

A special architectural feature
is the triangular oriel on the
west side of the building,
based on a design from Alsace
and erected during renovation
work in 1609.

As well as the extensive exhibition on the "Life and Work of Katharina Schroth", the Museum also houses exhibits from the estate of Emanuel Felke, the renowned "Clay Pastor":
It was in Bad Sobernheim that Pastor Felke introduced his cure that, even then, was based on the holistic treatment of patients. Before entering the Museum, visitors should therefore not be surprised to find a beautiful herb garden in front of the "Priorhof", to the left of the Museum area (centre photo), and to the right they will even see one of the original "Air Huts" (right-hand photo).

The "Air Hut" once accommodated patients who were receiving Pastor Felke's cure, which was based on the four elements - light, air, water and clay - combined with a diet rich in vital nutrients as well as abundant exercise.

As they go round the Local History Museum, attentive visitors will discover a number of romantic places
to sit and many otherwise hidden details.

"Hidden treasures"

Visitors to the Museum will also discover "finds from ancient times", artefacts from early settlements and from the Roman period, fossils, minerals and the small round stones known locally as "Steinhardt Peas". The "Photos from the Past" exhibit offers a look back through the centuries of the city of Bad Sobernheim and its environs. The Museum's holdings also include exhibits from local artists and musicians.

Bad Sobernheim is also an attractive destination offering many varied leisure facilities. You might also like to visit the Open-Air Museum, the Disibodenberg Monastery ruins or the sensational Barefoot Trail.
